October, weeks 1 and 2

I can tell my life is busier now with three schedules, mainly because I don't take as many pictures.  There isn't enough time!  We have been enjoying a beautiful fall here.  The weather has been cooler and lovelier than any previous fall I can remember.

Cora is growing and changing faster than I care for.  She is still sucking her thumb, although usually just for comfort when she wants to go to sleep.  I am interested to see if her thumb sucking increases or if she will always be this way.  Sylvie and Jens both had their thumbs in their mouths constantly.  She is interested in toys now.  She loves to grab, hit, pull, and taste everything she can get her hands on.  Sometimes her arms flap around so fast she reminds me of a bird trying to take off.
She has a delightful smile which we see often.  She laughs very occasionally, like Sylvie, I guess, but when she does laugh it is the sweetest sound.  She is very squeezy--she hasn't missed anything in the meal department, ever.
She likes attention, which is mostly good because she gets a lot of it.  Sometimes it isn't so great because she doesn't like being set down anywhere, ever, unless she is sleeping.  She strongly believes she should be held and carried at all times.
Well, sometimes she doesn't like it so much.
Sylvie has been in school for over a month now, and she loves it.  I can see her blooming!  She comes home with tons of crafts and papers every day, and enjoys being with and seeing her friends.  It has been fun to have some school friends also on her soccer team and at the gym so she seems them extra.  She delights Mike and me daily with her sweetness and happy helpfulness.  She is still so loving and cuddly--she is truly a rewarding girl.  Mike said a few days ago he wishes he could freeze her, and I agree.  Dress up has made a big come back around our house, and she and her friends entertain themselves for hours with make believe.  Here she is Rapunzel--the blankets are all rubberbanded together to make her long hair.

Mike rode Levi Lepheimer's Granfondo in October.  He enjoyed the beautiful coast and survived the century long ride.  We survived the day without him and enjoyed In 'n Out.
This is Sylvie's favorite outfit for Cora--it has kitty ears, although Sylvie later corrected me and said we should call them kitten ears because Cora is a baby.
Trying to capture a good smile!
I cleaned the highchair, which has resided in the garage for a while now.  It was hard work, and as I was duct-taping a large rip in the vinyl seat I thought back to how everything Jens had HAD to be new and pristine, and how truly, things change by the time you get to number 3!
She liked it, for about 2 minutes.  But that is about how long she likes anything that doesn't involve one on one attention.
She does love the blue seal on the exersaucer.  It is the first thing she looks for when you plop her in there--she can't shove it in her mouth fast enough.
While I was doing yard work, Jens and Sylvie were building a "fort" in the back yard.  Interestingly enough, I had just cleaned up the tremendous mess made from their last fort about a week before.  There was a lot of hammering and crashing going on.

Cora tried solids for three days.  They did not agree with her digestive system and she hasn't had any solids since.  She seemed to enjoy eating them, but I'm not sorry she is going to be my little baby for a little longer. Also, I forgot how messy it is feeding someone so little.  Rice cereal got everywhere.

Mike thought since we were taking pictures of Cora eating it was only fair to capture the other kids eating.   Sylvie thought it was funny.
Jens did not think it was funny and hid under the table right after this picture was taken.

Mike took the kids to watch some rockets being launched by some friends.  Cora and I stayed home.

It is Halloween season again.  We have been "Booed" 3 times and haven't yet managed to Boo anyone else.  Next year, I promise we will Boo a whole bunch of people.  We did finally manage to hang up our sign, which Jens altered to read "We [have not] been booed!" Thank you to our kind friends and neighbors who have made Halloween extra fun for us this year.

End of September

After I taught FAME in Jens's class, he and I had a "date" this week, just the two of us--no sisters.  We went for ice cream and stopped to check out the Halloween stuff at Target.  Fun stuff.
We also made and delivered caramel apples to friends for FHE. They were delicious.
Sylvie had her first preschool field trip.  They will have a field trip almost every month to all sorts of fun places.  In September they went to the Fire Station.  Sylvie talked a lot about "fire highters" and all of the cool stuff they had at the fire station.

Cora is cute as ever.  This week she has improved noticeably in her fine motor skills, reaching and grabbing specific toys and bringing them to her mouth.  She especially loves the toy bar on her bouncer seat and has prolonged conversations with the owl.  She is very cozy and comfortable to hold--nice and squeezy and cuddly.

Jens did his cardboard boat regatta at scouts.  He and Mike spent several hours and 2.5 rolls of duct tape making his boat, which capsized almost immediately due to a strange push off the side into the water.  He also earned his first belt loops.

Colby's boat was VERy impressive looking, and very large!  It was very sea-worthy.
At Sylvie's soccer practice Jens got hit in the eye with a baseball while playing catch with his friend.  He had an impressive black eye all week.
Sylvie's soccer game was fun this week--she played hard.  Lots of running and kicking.
 One of her fans.
 Fancy foot work!

 On her way to a . . .
 GOAL!!!!
 Good game, Fireworks!
Mike thought it was funny to let Cora play with Jens's blaster while we were eating lunch.
We borrowed the neighbors pool for a second round in the boat so Mom and Sylvie could see.  He made it successfully around the pool!

Back to Sunday--Natalie and Miles came for dinner.  It was fun to see them.  Miles is about 3 months older than Cora.  It is crazy how much growth and development happens in those three months!
