Hi Everyone.
Another average week from us, nothing too exciting to report. Playgroup (messy), primary board meeting (nice), date night (out to eat, food mediocre, company excellent), a baby shower (new babies are so small!), a girl's night out (Saw Definitely, Maybe--it was fine), cleaned our room and bathroom (looks very nice and was definitely overdue!).
Jens is back to being healthy and the weather is back to being sunny and 70. Yay! I love California!
Friday Jens and I went to the library and read for an hour. He is so in to books these days. Saturday we went back for family storytime. Jens loves the library, and he is so good there now. No more running through the stacks yelling. When we went to story time yesterday he asked if we were going to pick Dad up from work so he could come, too. Cute.
Sunday Jens was so excited to go to church. He kept asking to get in the car and go to church, so we told him he had to have a nap first. (This was at 10 am). Then he kept asking to go to bed. He didn't actually end up falling asleep, so it was our first Sunday where Jens didn't have any nap during the day. In fact, I think there are probably only about four days in his life where he hasn't had a nap. He did pretty well considering, and we even kept him up until his normal bedtime (with some help from The Sword and the Stone), but I still think for a church that espouses family values, 1:30-4:30 church borders on a crime!.
Yesterday before storytime, we ran to Sam's to get milk. Jens wanted a piece of pizza (it was 10 am) but I said no, so we decided to make pizza bagels for lunch. Peter, it so reminded me of the time you came to stay with Mike and me when we were living in Orem and we made pizza bagels for dinner. You were a better helper then Jens, who kept taking bites out of the bagels and eating the sauce, but you and he probably tied for how many pepperonis you scarfed while helping (a lot). Anyway, he was real cute helping me spread the sauce and put the pepperonis on, and he loved it when it was finished. Not my favorite lunch, but whatever works!
One more Jens story. We had chili for dinner on Monday, and Jens picked out a bean and said, "Look Mom! It's a beam! And another beam! And another sunbeam! There are lots of sunbeams!" He still thinks we had sunbeams for dinner. It was so cute we couldn't stand to correct him.
Tonight Mike is going to see the 3D U2 show with friends--he is very excited for a night out. And with the weather improving, he is planning on riding his bike to work sometime. :)

February 20th
Hi Everyone!
Jens celebrated last week's wonderfulness by getting a cold for this past weekend. I swear, he is sick more than he is well. Luckily, it seems short lived and small, so now he just has a runny nose.
Friday I went to a movie with my friend, Natalie. We saw Fool's Gold, which was not wonderful, but also not as bad as I expected. Matthew McConaghy (or however you spell that) has a unique gift of looking greasy and dirty at all times, even when he is supposed to have just showered. It was fun to have a night out, and Jens and Mike bonded over whatever basketball game was on tv, I am sure. Saturday I helped my friend Michelle paint her living room while her husband brought their kids over to our house. We were fast and it looked really nice. I like doing projects like that, and since I am in a rental, those projects are in short supply around here! Sunday we had the Harrisons and the Littles over for dinner. It was a crowded house, but we had a good time. Jens wasn't feeling good, so it was nice to have a distraction for him.
Monday Mike had the day off work. He didn't quite know what to do with himself! We went to the Train Museum in the morning, which Jens always loves. It was nice to get to go with Mike. Then in the afternoon, Mike and Jens set up the electric train from Grammy and Papa. Jens was so excited he was hopping up and down saying things like "Wowee! Woah! Yay!" and naming all the different kinds of cars. We put it away last might because it was making me crazy--he really likes having it on and running at all times, even if he isn't watching it. He would be in his room coloring and I would turn it off and he would get upset. Also, the longer it is out the more he wants to touch it, pick up the cars, make tunnels with his legs, drive his race cars on the track, etc. We figured if it stayed out much longer it would be broken.
Yesterday JP and Natalie came down for dinner, which is always fun. Natalie brought potstickers, and they were so good I ate about 10 of them. Okay, not really that many, but I was so full it felt like it.
That is all from us. Hope you are all well. Jess, I loved your pictures, but they made me cold! Also, Jill looked so cute with her pacifier stuck in her mouth with the snowsuit. Somehow that combination was extra funny to me.

Happy Valentine's Day

February 13th
Hi Everyone!
Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow, and Happy Birthday Uncle Dave.
We have had a delightful week. Let me say that again DELIGHTFUL week! Jens woke up on Saturday feeling miraculously well and extra sweet and cute. We have been enjoying every minute while it lasts! He has been talking a lot about being a big grown up and how he will have chapstick when he is big. I'm not sure why he is so interested in chapstick. He has also forgotten how to get out of bed by himself, so we are continuing to enjoy the crib. Also, he is loving CandyLand and Mike's Nerf "blaster," which I got him for his birthday. Last night they had target practice. Jens mostly hit the ceiling and the blinds instead of the pots that Mike lined up for them.
Friday Jens and I went to the train museum with his buddy Harrison and my friend Chelan. The boys had a blast running around looking at all the trains, and of course, they still love the models and wooden train toys. They could have played forever if they hadn't been hungry. The weather also turned gorgeous on Friday, so we went to the park in the afternoon. Mike and I had a date night--we went to Chicago Fire with the Nielsens, then went to the hot tub at the apartment. It was a delightful and relaxing evening. Not that we don't love having Jens around, but sometimes it is nice not to! We stayed in the restaurant for 2 hours, and we didn't have to clean the floor, entertain, or feel embarrassed about loud screams coming from our table.
Saturday was another gorgeous day. Jens and I went walking, then went for a bike ride to the park for a picnic with the Littles. The kids played at the park and we all caught some rays. It felt so nice to be outside! Saturday night we went for dinner at La Fiesta--a big group of us, and afterwards everyone came back to our house to play games. It was so fun!
Sunday was pretty nondescript, except that it was another gorgeous and sunny day and Jens continued his happy and cheerful behavior.
This week we have been walking, playing outside, and thinking about making Valentines, which we haven't yet done. Maybe tonight.

Removing Grease Stains
I finally have a good solution for removing grease stains, even after they have been washed and dried. I have used this method on garage grease (I am guessing oil from the car) that got onto Jens's pants as well as on food grease on a bunch of shirts. Finny how, when you have a kid, you become a big napkin sometimes. Anyway, it really works.
I use Goo Gone on the oil spot, let it sit for a minute or so, then rub it with a little dish detergent like dawn mixed with a little water. I let that sit for a minute, then rinse it out and put it in the washing machine. Yay! Three of my shirts and two of Mike's have been saved!

Pictures of the celebration!
February 6th
Hi Everyone
We were happy that we got to vote yesterday--I sent in our registration In January and I wasn't sure if it got in on time, and I didn't get anything in the mail, so I decided to stop by our polling place and just see if we were on the list and guess what? We were! Jens came with me while I "boted" and was very good and happy to get a sticker. It certainly has been an exciting primary season! Mike even voted!
Yesterday Jens went to his first birthday party. He was pretty overwhelmed at first--there were a lot of kids and the first game involved balloon popping, so he stayed on my lap hiding his head for the first part, but he got into it after a while. He missed the point of the cupcake decorating activity and just dug in and ate it sans frosting, but he was thrilled to be out of the house seeing other kids.
We were also excited to celebrate Mike's birthday on Sunday. We had a pretty fun day, although Jens was still feeling cruddy, so he and Mike stayed home from church. We had a delicious dinner and then had friends over for cake--it was a houseful--three couples and their kids. Jens figured out how to push a chair up to his bed and climb in, so at one point there was a 6 year old, a 4 year old, a 3 year old, and Jens all jumping on his little crib bed as hard as they could. Monday I noticed that his mattress now has a distinctly concave appearance!! We has a fun time, though, and the cake was pretty good. I made it from scratch--a new recipe I hadn't tried before, and you all know how I feel about that, but it turned out pretty good. The frosting was very fudgy, so how can you go wrong with that?
Saturday was pretty quiet--we stayed home and quiet, trying to help Jens feel better. Saturday night Mike went to a LAN party and had a good time. For a picture and video, you can visit my friend Natalie's blog at: www.jpandnatalie.blogspot.com
It looks like pretty wild and nerdy time.
Last week was pretty quiet with Jens being sick. We stayed home and didn't go anywhere.
Hope you all had a happy week!
Love,
Alison
